Education and Training Ballarat, supporting suicide prevention

Sometimes friends, family, colleagues, even a professional connection can be the first to see that someone they care about is having mental ill health issues.

The Education and Training project was developed to give community members the confidence and ability to identify and support someone who may be at risk of suicide. The training courses offered in the project will give you the skills to recognise when someone is at risk, identify red flags, help you know how to speak to someone about suicide, and then support them to seek the professional help they may need.

760 funded places will be available for the Local Government Area (LGA) of Ballarat to receive training for suicide prevention, across 4 different training workshops, particularly targeting the wider Ballarat community.

The stepped approach used in the training program provides a progressively higher level of skills training. The training program, developed by Uniting/Lifeline Ballarat, includes a workshop developed by Lifeline Australia and three workshops that have been developed by one of the world’s leading suicide prevention training organisation, LivingWorks.

The selected training options include:

  • START
  • safeTALK
  • Accidental counsellor
  • ASIST

More information on each workshop and who should complete training modules can be found under the information and uodates tab below.
